Certificate of currency for vending machine placements

It's the one-page document every property manager asks for. Here's exactly what it proves, what they check on it, and how fast you can get one.

What is a certificate of currency?

A certificate of currency is written proof from your insurer that a policy is active right now. It is not the policy itself and it is not the Product Disclosure Statement — it is a summary page issued so a third party can verify your cover without seeing your full policy documents.

For vending operators, it is the document that unlocks a placement. No certificate, no machine on site.

What a property manager checks on it

  • The insured name matches the entity signing the placement agreement, including trading name and ABN.
  • The limit of indemnity meets their minimum — usually $10 million or $20 million.
  • The policy period covers the whole placement term, or at least the next 12 months.
  • The business activity described includes vending machine operation and servicing.
  • The insurer is APRA-authorised and the certificate is issued by the insurer or broker.
  • Where required, their entity is noted as an interested party or principal.

A mismatch on the insured name is the single most common reason a certificate is bounced back. Use the exact legal entity that will hold the placement agreement.

How quickly can you get one?

If you already hold public liability cover, your insurer or broker can reissue a certificate the same day, usually from an online portal. If you don't hold a policy yet, you can complete the assessment, pay online and download the certificate immediately — typically within about 15 minutes end to end.

Certificates expire — diarise the renewal

Certificates carry an expiry date matching the policy period. Centre management teams run compliance audits and will chase an expired document, sometimes suspending access to the site until it's replaced. Set a reminder 30 days before expiry and send the fresh certificate to every landlord on your route.
